Established in 1987, the Brain Injury Program at Mount Sinai has led the field in brain injury research and clinical care. Designated as one of sixteen TBI Model Systems of Care, Mount Sinai offers specialized care for individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) across the continuum of recovery from the hospital to the community. Our internationally recognized Brain Injury Research Center (BIRC) investigates cognitive, social, emotional, and biological outcomes of brain injury to develop and refine new treatments for people living with brain injury. One of the first specialized brain injury research and clinical care centers in the country, Mount Sinai has been recognized as a source for cutting edge research, clinical care, information, and support services for people with brain injury - leading to the moniker, "Brain Injury Central."
