Desiree Rosdahl is a spunky 30-year old nurse in the operating room at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Compassionate by trade, Des is also a caring individual to all who's paths she crosses.
On February 19th, 2019, Desiree was involved in a serious ski accident that resulted in 13 broken bones and a traumatic brain injury. Des's initial prognosis was grim- her family was told it could be a month before she woke up from her coma and that when she did, her recovery would not be looked at in months, but in years. True to her stubborn personality, Des woke up within a week. Though unable to talk or communicate at first, over time Des's strength, drive, and compassion have contributed to a miraculous recovery. She also had the support of incredible surgeons, brain injury specialists, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, recreational therapy, neuropsychology, nurses, and techs at Strong Memorial Hospital.
As of July, Desiree is working on building up her walking stamina, attending occupational therapy and speech therapy through Strong Memorial Hospital's Cognitive Rehab Program and is working to do activities she enjoys such as gardening, reading and spending time with friends.
We are so excited to do this walk, not only as a way to support the Brain Injury Association of NYS, but also to celebrate how far Des has come in such a short period of time. We hope you'll be able to join us in this celebration!
