Meet the March On for Brain Injury Rochester Honoree
Lilliana “Lillie” Austin is a smart, funny, caring beautiful 9-year-old girl from Geneva, NY. Lillie attends North Street School where she is in the 3rd grade. Lillie is active in 4H and attends the YMCA, where she swims regularly. Lillie loves the outdoors! She loves hiking, camping, horseback riding and riding her bicycle. She also enjoys music and dancing. She is independent, and her smile and personality can light up any room.
Tragically at 9 months old, Lillie sustained a traumatic brain injury. She was taken to Golisano’s Children’s Hospital and spent several weeks in Intensive care. At that time, her prognosis looked grim. Her parents were told she may not speak, walk, run or function as other typical children do. Lillie woke up from her coma and got stronger every day. Being the fighter that she is, Lillie has beat the odds and learned to do all the things she wasn’t expected to do and much, much more. With the help of Golisano Children’s Hospital, New York State Early Intervention Program, The Happiness House in Geneva, NY, The Brain Injury Association of New York State, and all of her teachers and therapists from Geneva Schools, and family and friends, Lillie has made a recovery that has been nothing short of a MIRACLE.
Lillie is a true example of strength, courage and determination. Her family is so proud of her unwavering spirit and all she has accomplished thus far. We cannot wait to see what her future holds!
