Hi! I'm Sophia Scarpa. I'm happy to announce I am the Team Captain of Blackfriars for the 2020 March On for Brain Injury event being held in Long Island.
The Blackfriars, a Shakespeare troupe, might seem an unlikely partner in BIANYS' March for Brain Injury, but Shakespeare would approve. Macbeth asked, "Canst thou not minister to a mind diseased, pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow, raze out the written troubles of the brain, and with some sweet oblivious antidote cleanse the fraught bosom of that perilous stuff which weighs upon the heart?" Having twice played roles of characters whose thinking went awry, I have deeply considered what it means not to function as yourself.
While poisoning, drowning, shipwrecks, brawls, and sword fights have become less common since Shakespeare's time, car accidents, strokes, and falls have not. The human brain is a fragile thing. One moment it is sharp and functional, then some terrible misfortune occurs and it can be a prison. But the brain can survive despite adversity, especially with the forces of an organization like BIANYS.
I'm asking you to please help us support Brain Injury Association of New York State by making a contribution to this fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar we raise will advance Brain Injury Association of New York State's great cause! You can also ask me how you can get involved too.
